I have officially applied to the University of Toronto as an International Relations applicant. Toronto's application was a joke in comparison to the other applications I am filling out. It only wanted your name, address, list of previous schools, and which major you were applying to. No recommendation letters, essays, parents information, etc were required. It was the easiest application but also the most expensive, come in at $180 USD.
Toronto is a long shot as it seems they are going to place more emphasis on my 'proper' university grades as opposed to the more recent community college grades. Toronto only became apart of the mix because my father lives in Toronto and works at the university as a scientist and professor, so I should qualify for financial assistance through the Family Scholarship program. It will be nice to be near family for a change. Toronto is also a great city, albeit it can get very cold, but it has a good pulse to it and a European feel.
I decided on the major of International Relations because it incorporates economics and diplomacy which I believe is the best combination in becoming a future leader, something that HBS looks for in each candidate.
The next months I have to send them my finalized transcripts and a description of every course I've taken since Freshman year. I am also going to slip a mini personal essay in there explaining my situation and why I've decided to re-enroll at this point in my life.
